The NovEx Experience
Orientation, Remediation, and Focused Clinical Learning Programs
Content in each NovEx module is based on the latest evidence-based, cost-effective, and clinically relevant practices. NovEx modules focus on salient and essential mission-critical content. NovE-Cases accompany the lessons to compel learners to use knowledge as it is gained, develop clinical thinking and reasoning, use good clinical judgment, and ensure safety in high risk and context-specific situations. NovEx modules actively engage learners to be immersed “IN” each situation to think and act like a real clinician. Unlike most educational courses, NovEx modules are based on highly interactive, “unfolding” authentic patient situations.
NovEx Modules include:
- Narrative(s)
- Lesson(s)
- Cases (min. of 8)
NovE-Lessons:
Short digital lessons focus on the essential clinical and scientific content about a particular subject. Animations demonstrate and visually reinforce how to clinically use the concepts learned in the NovE-lesson.
All NovE-lessons are updated every six months by content experts to reflect the latest quality, evidence-based and cost-effective practices.
NovE-Cases:
Learners immediately use the knowledge learned from the NovE-lessons by practicing on over hundreds “unfolding” authentic patient cases, called NovE-cases. Upon entering the virtual patient room, Learners are challenged to evaluate the patient’s clinical situation using all available information, attend to patient trends, respond to clinical changes, identify problems, and solve them using the highest priority interventions. Learners develop the essential habit of evaluating patients after each intervention. They instantly see the results of their interventions and can make adjustments accordingly. This highly interactive process engages learners to develop clinical reasoning and imagination skills – both habits of practice that are essential for developing expertise.
Testing & Evaluation:
- The NovEx Clinical Thinking & Reasoning Program comes with pre-tests to assist Educators in determining: 1) whether the newly graduated nurses know how and when to use the vast amounts of knowledge they gained and 2) which content areas or patient conditions the new nurses need to focus on. Educators can then determine which content areas the New Graduates may be able to skip in orientation if they demonstrate situated use of knowledge in clinical practice via problem solving the Pre-Test NovE-Cases. For new graduates who may be practice-ready, the Pre-Test results can assist in reducing orientation time and costs.
- Post-Tests are available to evaluate the learning gained from NovEx Lessons and Cases.
